Trading pins
Trading extras · same needle · book carry
A trading pin is the extra you can spare. Shop figures on this wall run about three inches, hard enamel, often with a case. Smaller sets fill a book: palms, flamingos, boards, citrus slices around an inch and a half to two inches. The back on a heavy face wants a rubber or locking clutch. Put it on before you walk away from the board.
What to carry
Carry extras in a small book, not loose in a pocket where the post bends. Face to face with a sheet between. Pick the pin you will offer before you reach the board. Hold it face out. Say the one you want. Wait. If they nod, you swap one for one.
A mystery bag is useful when you want volume. Open it at the hotel. Check backs and posts before you walk into a park pin shop. If a face is bent or the stamp is missing, keep it as a jacket pin. Do not argue with booth staff about it. Types and quality is the longer note on backs and cells.
Size and clutch
A 1-inch lapel disc is not the same job as a 3-inch figure. The larger face needs a clutch that will not wander on a swinging bag. Butterfly wings catch a sweatband. Rubber grips by friction. Locking takes a deliberate pull. Seat the one that matches the cloth.
